Portraits that begin with a conversation.

Every Story Portrait begins by listening. Through painted portraiture and recorded conservation, I create contemporary portraits that preserve the lived experiences, memories and stories of people across Northern Ireland and beyond.

Portraiture has the power to preserve far more than a person’s likeness. It can honour a life, capture a moment in time and give lasting form to the stories that shape who we are.

My practice centres on Story Portraits-contemporary oil paintings developed through conservation and careful listening. Before I begin painting, I spend time getting to know the person behind the portrait. Their memories, experiences and reflections become an essential part of the creative process, allowing each painting to become more than a visual record; it becomes a reflection of a lived life.

Working primarily in water-mixable oils, I create portraits that celebrate the richness of ordinary people and the stories they carry. My recent exhibition, The Cost of Living, explored the emotional, social and deeply human experiences that connect us all, reinforcing my belief that every life is a story worth listening to.

Whether creating a commissioned portrait or developing a new body of work, my hope is always the same: to create work that invites connection and becomes lasting heirlooms for generations to come.
